Cheng was born in San Francisco, United States. He moved to Hong Kong at a very young age and spent most of his childhood days in Hong Kong. Cheng studied in Pun U Association Wah Yan Primary School, and later in Alhambra High School[citation needed] and Hong Kong International School, an English-speaking high school in Hong Kong. In between his schooling days, at around the age of 12, Cheng's mother sent him over to San Francisco to live with his uncle for two years. However, he later returned back to Hong Kong again when his mother changed her mind about migrating to United States. Cheng did not finish his high school in Hong Kong; he moved to Canada for the rest of his high school years. He later went to United States to pursue his college degree in CSULA[2] where he majored in Civil Engineering. However, due to the death of his father, he did not finish his degree and decided to move back to Hong Kong to start a singing career and to be with his mother.
